I promise to get back to posting food-related pieces (like this one on agflation) soon.
But I just wanted to thank the many many good folk in Canada who've written in, come to talks, bought books, and made my life delightful during the launch of the Canadian edition. For those outside Canada, here's what I've been doing: I was interviewed on The Hour, a show someone described as "The Daily Show, if it was produced by a news organisation with integrity". Not a bad description. The host, George Stroumboulopoulos, is whip smart, very very funny, and hot. You can watch the clip (and comment on it...) here. ... read more »

I've been a little delinquent in posting material here of late. As the good folk from South Park have so eloquently put it, blame Canada. I've been preparing for a couple of events in Toronto as part of the launch of the Canadian edition, and if you're around, it'd be lovely to see you there.

The Toronto Food Policy Council
partners with business and community groups to develop policies and programs promoting food security. Our aim is a food system that fosters equitable food access, nutrition, community development and environmental health.
One of the results of this partnership is the fanastic Food News website, run by Amber McNair and Wayne Roberts. It mission is very similar to Stuffed and Starved, and although it doesn't update quite as often as this site, it has a stellar range of contributing editors. ... read more »

A posting at the Monthly Review Zine tells of the new NAFTA supercorridor. If you've not heard of it, that's partly the point. Surreptitiously, construction has begun on the proposed route, which will link the port of Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico to Duluth at the US Canada border on Lake Superior (download map from MR).
In a bilious op-ed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, a Senior Fellow at the US Business and Industry Council points out that the effect will be to relegate Mexico into a trans-shipment point for Asian imports into the US. ... read more »
